Alaska Wedding First Look | Denali National Park -Tonglen Lake | April + Evan

“The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain.” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What do you do when it rains on your wedding day? Well, you let it rain. You take the kisses from the sky and rest in the presence of Love, that’s what you do. From the moment April and Evan awoke on their wedding day in rugged Alaska, they were at total peace. Why should anything ruin it now? They had waited patiently for this day…talking, planning, arranging… nothing was going to stop the celebration of their union.

So, when it came time to photograph their “First Look” and it began to lightly rain, this amazing couple still went for it, knowing the sweetness a first look adds to the wedding day. As April donned a pair of red rubber rain boots and matching shawl to keep her warm, Evan walked the trail around beautiful Tonglen Lake to their private meeting spot away from the gathering crowd and awaited his bride. This would be their only moments alone together to take it all in, to have private words and stolen kisses. And as softly as the rain came, as if to kiss this special couple, they gently held each other and let the rain fall all around. It was elegant, and natural, and divinely romantic… so I snapped away, capturing the moment. Walking back to the lodge we noticed a small greenhouse, they stepped inside. With the door shut and rain falling tenderly upon the roof, it was breathtaking and beautiful and I have to say my favorite part of the day! With sweet delight, I present to you April and Evan’s stolen moments when it rained during their Alaska wedding.

Blush Wedding Dress Inspired Shoot | Sacramento Wedding Photographer Rochelle Wilhelms

I have been dying to photograph a blush wedding dress. There is something so soft and feminine yet bold about the bride who chooses to wander off the traditional “white dress” pathway. The beautiful thing about a blush dress is that is isn’t exactly pink, and it doesn’t photograph pink but it puts such a gorgeous glow to the skin that really comes across in pictures. It is the perfect choice for the bride who doesn’t think she looks as beautiful as she could in white. With that said, I would like to introduce you to this stunning Sue Wong gown. This gown is the most delicate shade of blush with exquisite embellishments of leaves and flowers threaded with gold that will make any girl feel like a princess. But there is more to this dress than meets the eye.

Heather Caswell, stylist and owner of The Wardrobe in Davis, Ca. has a passion. A passion for beautiful things and beautiful people. One beautiful person she knew was Ann Murray-Paige. Ann fought cancer with dignity and grace and inspired those around her to want to make a difference in the lives of people struggling with this dreadful disease. Ann founded a charity called Project Pink to do just that by offering hope and help for young women fighting cancer. In the spirit of this extraordinary woman, designer Sue Wong has donated this extraordinary gown to The Wardrobe and when it sells in the month of May, Heather will donate the proceeds to Project Pink in order that they can continue the good work Ann started.

This is just one of the ways Heather contributes to the community and people around her. She also has a passion for styling woman as well as weddings. So, If you are a local bride who likes to blaze her own trail and wants to make a difference, head on over to The Wardrobe in Davis and take a look at not only this blushing beauty, but also at the many other unique and exclusive gowns that Heather has in her uncommon shop. Let Heather help you find the dress and create the look that expresses YOU perfectly!

And of course, if you are in the market for a photographer to capture your special day, I would love for you to consider me for the job. My website can be found at www.rochellewilhelms.com

Putting together a shoot requires the help of many people and vendors. First of all, I would like to thank Heather for allowing me to have a dream photo session with this gown and for allowing me to have a small part in raising money for Project Pink. In addition, I would also like to thank Tuxedo Den of Vacaville for providing the mensware for this shoot. People generally think of formal tuxedos only when they think of Tuxedo Den, but the fact is, they carry a beautiful array of lightweight, elegant suits that will be versatile and comfortable especially in the upcoming heat of summer. Additional thanks go to Stems Florist of Vacaville for providing some of the beautiful flowers and to Marci Cawley of Let’s Make Up With Marci for doing makeup, helping with styling and creating the bouquet. And, of course, thank you to our beautiful, real-life couple Ryan and Katelyn who were a dream to photograph.
